Watch: People gather at Sheffield’s Ukrainian Centre to celebrate Vyshyvanka Day

More than 80 people gathered for Vyshyvanka Day – a national Ukrainian holiday and a celebration of heritage, identity, and unity.

The event featured a flashmob, traditional music, and handmade crafts.

Many attendees wore vyshyvankas, embroidered shirts that symbolise resistance, memory, and cultural pride.

Each pattern on vyshyvanka carries meaning, often tied to region, family, and history.

As the war in Ukraine continues, events like this offer a way for the diaspora to remain rooted and to pass that connection on.

While Sheffield has become a home for lots of Ukrainian refugees events like this offer both a celebration and a quiet act of resilience.
