After almost five years of waiting, Ukrainian United School — formerly Borscht Ukrainian School — is set to reopen with a fresh start, thanks to the perseverance and dedication of its founder and principal, Yevgeniya Tatarenko. The school, which was forced to close its doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is making its highly anticipated return in March of this year, this time at Ecole Discovery Trails.
Offering Ukrainian children in the community a place to connect with their heritage and culture while learning new skills at a new home, for Tatarenko, is incredibly exciting.
“We were waiting for this chance for almost five years. So now we finally reopened this and we have more teachers… it’s a brand new school and everything is great.”
The school will be offering a comprehensive education that integrates Ukrainian culture, from language lessons to the folk arts, with the grand opening scheduled for March 22nd, 2025. During which, the school will officially announce its plans for the future and celebrate with local dignitaries, media, and members of the community.
