Kadeem Harris knows how to make a good introduction when he signs for a new club.
At Sheffield Wednesday two years ago, fans were thrilled to see a pacy, ball-carrying winger capable of being a genuine threat on the flank when he scored against Reading on his debut. Two weeks ago, the 28-year-old Londoner took just 13 minutes to claim his place in history as the first Englishman to score for a Ukrainian club as he made his first appearance for Metalist Kharkiv.
“I signed one day, played the next day and scored on my debut, which was a great feeling,” he tells The Athletic from his new base in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-biggest city and almost 2,000 miles from home. “I didn’t know I was going to be coming to Ukraine throughout the whole of the off-season, it wasn’t even on my mind. I was open to going abroad, but Ukraine wasn’t one of the places that I had considered.
