Anthony Joshua, the former two-time world heavyweight champion, has returned to training in preparation for a potential fight later this year. This comes after a hiatus following a fatal car accident in Nigeria last year that resulted in the deaths of two of his close friends.
Joshua is training again under the guidance of Iegor Golub, who previously assisted him leading up to his knockout victory over Jake Paul. During a training session, Golub shared images confirming their work together, captioning one post simply, “Back to training.” Undefeated heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk, who previously defeated Joshua twice, was also present in the gym and was seen offering Joshua technical advice during a kettlebell exercise. Joshua was observed working on technical skills with Golub and focusing on conditioning through jump rope exercises.
While a highly anticipated matchup against rival Tyson Fury—who is reportedly planning a comeback fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov—remains a possibility, potential opponents for Joshua’s return include fellow British heavyweight Dillian Whyte.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, recently indicated activity regarding the fighter’s next steps, sharing a photo of himself with Joshua and the word “loading.” This followed Hearn’s revelation that Joshua had recently turned down an offer from a rival promoter. Hearn emphasized the strength of his partnership with Joshua, noting that when a rival promoter approached Joshua, Joshua immediately forwarded the inquiry to Hearn, reaffirming their commitment to working together as a team.
